I imagine this scene like if in the end of the chapter Arnold says something like "Hey Helga, then we are friends now?" She smiles a little and then she walks away, but she turns back and gives to him a wink and says "In your dreams Arnold-o"

Nice work! I love how after they get out of the flooding greenhouse on her mattress, they smile at each other. Too bad it didn't last, though. And those two ants definitely symbolize them. 
I think the black ant, according to some people, had a head with an oval shape, somewhat like Arnold's.
